Have you ever taken a look at the ingredients in your cosmetics? If „Aqua“ is listed first, that could be a problem. Because although water sounds like a logical ingredient for skincare, in most cases it does your skin no favours – quite the opposite.
It may sound paradoxical, but water in care products can actually leave skin drier. After you apply it, it evaporates from the skin’s surface and often leaves the skin feeling even tighter than before. That’s because the water draws moisture away from the skin instead of giving it.
With products that contain aloe vera in particular, there’s often some cheating going on. Even though the plant is naturally rich in water and nourishing compounds, many manufacturers add extra water. Why? Usually to cut costs.
And it goes further still: some producers remove the water from the pure aloe vera gel by processing it into a powder – which, among other things, makes it easier to transport. That powder is then „revived“ with water. Sounds odd? We think so too. Because this process strips away many of the aloe’s valuable components.

When you buy a product with aloe vera, be sure to check the ingredients. Is „Aqua“ right at the top of the list? Then it probably contains more water than aloe vera. Choose products instead that do without extra fillers and focus on what matters: caring for your skin.
